Stamford Joss Styx Chakra Anahata Heart

The Stamford Chakra range was commissioned by Aargee Novelties of London who no longer exist. Aargee Novelties was taken over by Puckator in 2020, while the Stamford brand has been split out into StamfordLondon as a private label perfumed-charcoal incense wholesaler, though they also import some Stamford branded masala incense made by Satya.

All of the Stamford Chakra incenses will now be moved into the Vintage Incense category - incenses that are no longer available (at least under their previous brand name), though are worthwhile incenses.

It has been 5 years since I reviewed this Anahata Heart, and the scent on the stick is still divine. Sweet, floral, slightly woolly (the scent of a fresh wool jumper), with a creamy sandalwood base. It's a sensual, attractive scent - quite delicious. Confidently divine in a cool, intimate, friendly manner. Subtle citric notes - mildly, cleanly, sweetly lemon.

As with most decent incense, it burns slowly, confidently, and consistently, producing beautiful ghostly grey smoke. The scent on the burn is all perfume - there's no off notes, no rubbish, no cheap filler, no floor sweepings, or damp cardboard. This is a top end incense. Someone will still be making this. It's a floral, mild, sweet citric, and creamy sandalwood scent - reminiscent of the scent on the stick, though more woody. It's cracking stuff. I think there would need to be more going on, more counter-play, or a simply more delicious scent to lift it to World Class, but this is definitely Heavenly.

Anahata Heart has a seductive lemon and rose petal scent - quite uplifting and warm. Anahata is the fourth of the Charas, and is the one relaxing to the heart, so having a rose scent, which is associated with love, as is the heart, seems very fitting.

Chakra is a series of seven scents from Stamford, which they use for sticks, cones, essential oils, granules and fragrances.  Chakra are the areas in the body that are centres of life force or energy. Anahata  is represented by the colour green, which is the colour of the box. There is a diagram of the seven primary chakra on the box, and a little bit of information about keeping your chakra in balance.

I starting reviewing Stamford's Chakra range in September 2013, when I bought Stamford Chakra Muladhara Root Incense Sticks - I liked them so much I decided to buy the whole range, and have been reviewing them one by one since then.  This is the fourth one, so only three to go!

  1. I just tried the sample you sent me. It's very nice of you to share something that you like so much, that is no longer available. Thank you. :)
I wonder if "7 Chakras" by Green Tree, of which I sent you a a sample, would hit a similar spot for you. It's not the same scent but I find a certain similarity between the two.

    1. I'd be interested to burn the two and note the similarities.
