There is a pleasant refreshing sharpness about this. Yes, there's the jasmine, but the scent is a little crisper than average for a floral aroma - there's a cleansing citric tang of lemon that makes this a great scent for waking up the house.

I like this. Though it's a jasmine scent, there's a stronger suggestion of lemongrass - it's clean, lively and refreshing. It brings a positive spirit into a room. It's a perfumed-dipped charcoal stick - the everyday incense of India, and a frequent everyday incense in our house. Perfume-dipped charcoal sticks are cheap as chips, friendly, casual, and with a wide variety of scents from the traditional to the modern and sophisticated. They are not often heavenly or profound, but as your everyday incense friend they are indispensable. The stick has chemical compounds - volatile esters that are not unpleasant, but are clearly non-organic in origin; a bit like a mix of shoe leather and toilet cleaner. It's not promising! But when burned the aroma is quite reasonable - there are drop out points when the charcoal is more noticeable, but this is not common. The sticks are machine made, and the mix has been applied evenly, so is fairly consistent.
The lower notes are suggestive of a fat and floral jasmine, while the higher notes are closer to that lemongrass - bright and sharp and quite uplifting. Yes, a bloody good everyday incense!

I got this randomly in their 100 sticks pack for my pooja room, and as I burnt 4 of their sticks, I instantly enjoyed the fragrance, it was fresh, crisp jasmine. I find jasmine working well with dipped incenses like Hem Precious Mogra, Cycle Jasmine, Tulasi Jasmine, Shalimar Jasmine and Alaukik Jasmine. Jasmine in masala incenses don’t seem to mix well but I loved some jasmine masala incenses like Balaji Jasmine, BIC Panchavati Gajra, Cycle Flute Masala Jasmine, Shroff Jasmin 1940, Shroff Mogra and Sree Vani Indian Heritage Jasmine.
ReplyDeleteJasmine is one of those scents that tends to work better as a synthetic - it is crisper, cleaner, and more effective than natural jasmine, which lacks the clarity and impact of a synthetic. While not all masala incense uses synthetics, some do. And I suspect that the masala jasmine you like has some quantity of synthetic jasmine - either to boost and supplement the natural jasmine, or to fully replace it.
DeleteBy natural jasmine, I mean a jasmine essential oil. Natural jasmine has a subtle beauty that I have not encountered in any essential oil or synthetic perfume. On the whole I am not a fan of jasmine oils or perfumes, but I love it as a natural flower in my garden.
