Imported and sold by the UK Krishna temple, Bhaktivedanta Manor, under the Dhupa Collection brand name via their online site Sacred Boutique/KrishnaShopping.com. They sell it at £1 for an attractive little pack of eight short sticks (about 3 1/2 inches of paste). Sacred Boutique say they import from Vrindavan, though I've not yet found a significant incense house in Vrindavan. It is possible that incense sold in Vrindavan is made in Pune, but that is just conjecture. Kasturi is the Indian term for deer musk, though genuine legal deer musk is rare and expensive, so musk in incense is a constructed scent which may use plants or aroma chemicals.
The sticks are attractive, with some sparkly glitter included in the paste, which is something HMS in Pune like to do. The scent on the stick is perfumed, musky, sweet, cocoa, vanilla, smoky, slightly floral, and youthful. It's a bit like a teen body spray - something like Billy Eilish. I like it.
There's a few off-notes at the start until the burn gets settled, and then the scent I found on the stick starts to emerge with similar characteristics - cocoa and musk are favourite, though the scorch notes present at the start will occasionally weave into the musky scent threads and spoil things a bit. It seems to me that it is easier to make a cold throw scent than one which has to develop when being burned, especially being burned along with binders and combustibles.
On the whole I like this. The scent on the stick is more attractive and interesting than the scent on the burn, but I find this is not uncommon, and the scent on the burn is very pleasant and engaging. My problem is that it remains fairly grounded in a teenage body mist sweet musk scent profile, which, though attractive in itself, has its limitations, and such scents are, for me, best suited as body perfumes than as incense fragrances. I'm also a little put off by the occasional off-notes that float in and out. But, as I say, on the whole I like this, and would be quite happy to buy some more - especially at the price.
