Zipper packs of everyday perfume-dipped incense appears to be something of a trend in India. I noticed it first about five years ago, and now pretty every major Indian producer of perfumed incense will have some budget zipper packs. This pack is 100g, and has a RRP of 70 Rupees (approx 70p or 80 cents) - there are around 50 sticks (I didn't count, just estimated). This is part of parcel of samples sent by Ashish of Balaji. I lit up some this morning to refresh the house as I made breakfast, and it was felt that the scent is quite heady without necessarily being that attractive.
The incense, along with another zipper pack called Royal Bengal, appears to be part of a charitable series where a portion of the profits are given to various causes - in this case families of soldiers, in the case of Royal Bengal to the conservation of the Bengal tiger. The full name is A Salute To The Real Heroes of India. The sticks are 8 inches with 6 inches of extruded brown paste dipped in synthetic perfume. Huge, throat catching volatility on the stick - a vicious chemical nip with a sharp pine and menthol aroma. Lights up with a moderate flame and a low amount of black smoke. Burns with a steady amount of attractive blue grey smoke. Lasts around 45-50 minutes.
The impact of the burning incense makes more of an impression than the scent, which is vague, familiar, uninteresting. It is neither sweet nor woody. Moderate floral notes. It is a generic room freshener, mainly with elements of pine disinfectant. It is what it is. Not exactly unpleasant, and will keep the cats company for a couple of weeks.
