A. S. Agarbathi Works of Bangalore

A. S. Agarbathi Works of Bangalore were founded in 1978, and are members of the All India Agarbathi Manufacturers Association.  They have an Ayurvedic range of masala style sticks, and I've really liked them, but have only reviewed three of their scents over a six year period. Unfortunately, they have a name that doesn't stand out, and is a little awkward to search for. Why I haven't explored the company further may be simply down to the company name which simply doesn't stick with me, or lack of availability in the UK.

It looks from their website that they do the standard everyday room freshener perfumed sticks, some backflow cones (everyone seems to be doing those these days), as well as the Ayurvedic masala sticks in Goloka style packets. I've not really noticed their products much in the UK, certainly not in the usual places, but have on three separate occasions bought one of their Ayurvedic masala incense, which indicates they are imported to the UK, but have not yet made much of an impression.

  1. While the AS brand may have originated in 1978 I suspect the current owner of the brand name is not the original. If you get around to trying their Chandan and their Patchouli Steve you'll find them to be identical to Goloka's. I'm reasonably convinced the Ayurvedic line is made under license.

    1. I have been told (withholding name for the moment in case he doesn't want to get publicly involved) that: "Goloka is not making their incense either: Nag Champa is made by Tulasi and the rest is sourced from companies like Shree Vani (Bangalore). I went to a meeting with Shree Vani and they confirmed that they are supplying to Goloka!"

If that is true (and I'm not yet convinced without stronger evidence as Goloka have advanced manufacturing premises, and are associated with Madhu Pandit Dasa, who is a hugely respected person) then it would be possible that AS are making the Goloka Chandan rather than the other way round. My Goloka is all old, but people have been telling me that recent Goloka is not as good as it used to be.

    2. And yet if you check the location of Sree Vani Perfumery works at the details shown on their website the google earth 2022 map shows no sign of them, lol. It's possible there is some crossover with Goloka and other producers as they are part of the Seva Trust, but I'd be wary of any info' regarding this unless it comes from Goloka themselves. The incense business has more claims than a Trump election campaign :))

    3. They do have premises. My source has been there. And there is a photo on Google, though the sign is faded and hard to read:
      Sree Vani
