Stamford Mythical Range Incense Pixie's Dance

Third review - scroll down for earlier

Curious scent on the cone - quite chemical, but interesting, attractive, and evocative. It reminds me of something, but I'm not sure yet. There's a synthetic musk with elements of patchouli coming through. Something earthy. Mushrooms. Chocolate. Mostly dark base notes.

The scent on the burn is mostly burning twigs and sawdust. I was hoping it would settle, but it doesn't - it remains as burning core material all the way through. The blurb says "The magical aroma of vanilla and tonka bean in Pixies Dance will jive and whisk you away to mystical moorlands of the pixies". Sadly I get no vanilla or tonka bean (which has a vanilla aroma, and is sometimes used as a vanilla synthetic). Looking at my previous reviews I note "sombre" and "rubber bands". Which seems apt. This is not a good incense.

Second review

Yeah, rubber bands and a hint of ginger is what I get on the cone. Not unpleasant. Quite intriguing in fact. Some of that rubber band returns when being burned, but sweeter. On the whole not an enthusiastic scent, not one to carry you away. Indeed, it's fairly neutral in the way of that grey paint that seems so popular now in refurbished pubs. Smoke and grey paint. Ho hum.

First review

This has a sombre tone - rubber bands and drying paint, quite serious and quiet and slightly studious. Not at all what I would associate with pixies or dancing. The names of these cones appear to be selected quite randomly. The scents are varied - some lighter and sweeter than others; and some are more fun and enjoyable than others. Most are pleasant, but not all. For such an interesting theme, the scents are pretty random. Some work for me, and others less so. This one is not fun, not heavenly, but not offensive either - it's just meh. It'll burn away and inform the room, but in such a sombre, neutral tone, it's like painting the room in brown.  Stretching for positive points - well, it's warm, has some woody, and reasonably pleasant sandalwood, so can give some backbone to a grey, foggy Saturday. But, yeah, mostly meh.
