Incense In The Wind

Burner Burner - Carhartt jacket incense burner

HEM The Moon

Picked up from eBay for £1.49, this is a hex box of approx 20 sticks. There is a mild and pleasant camphor smell in the box, though that is not present when burning. The burning fragrance is a warm gentle sandalwood base, with elusive flowery notes. Sometimes (not often, and not on every stick) the flowery notes come forth a little stronger, and it is reminiscent of cheap and stale flowery old ladies perfumes. The smoke is a silvery blue grey - quite attractive. The lingering aroma is warm sandalwood. The sub-name Chand, is from the Indian word Chandra for moon, and also relates to the moon god, Chandra, whose image appears on the box.

This is not a strong perfume, and the scent is modestly pleasant, though can drift into mildly unpleasant as well as warmly attractive. It's an acceptable incense, though its inconsistency is not encouraging. The more I have used this incense the less I have liked it - it does have a chemical note that lingers and catches at the back of the throat. I'm not impressed in general by the incense I have experienced from the HEM Corporation, though the HEM Frankincense-Myrrh is attractive and I would consider buying that again.
