Deepika Fragrance

 

Deepika Fragrance is based in Bangalore, and is run by a Hindu family, headed by Harish Gupta, with the contact person being  Ajay Gupta. [2025 update: I am not sure of this information, as I can no longer find it] They have a shop on 1st Block, Rajajinagar, in Bangalore.  [2025: I no longer think the address and shop photos are related to Deepika Fragrance] 

Amazon sell a package of five boxes of Deepika cones plus a Satya box for £7. The Satya is a crude fake. [2025 update: The (fake?) Satya, while advertised, is no longer included -  it is now six boxes of Deepika] There is a website listed on the Deepika boxes, but it is not active, and some attempts to reach it have led to spoof sites, so be careful!

There are claims on the boxes to be "masala" or "pure & natural", but these cones have been dipped in a solution of synthetic fragrance and agarbathi oil (DEP). The website address on the pack no longer belongs to Deepika, but the Wayback Machine has snapshots of the site from 2018, where they do honestly say that their incense is perfume-dipped.

I have looked around for up to date information on Deepika with no luck. I suspect that Deepika was created in 2018 by someone who had been involved in the incense industry since 1996, and that they went bankrupt, and what is being sold on Amazon is bankrupt stock. But that's just my speculation. If anyone knows more, please let me know.

Conclusion: On the whole they are lower end everyday incense; just about  acceptable.  Quite sturdy, and - mostly - effective at freshening the toilet.

Deepika Dragon Blood Masala Cones

 

Fruity and spicy aroma on the cone. Clove I think. It's a bit like a fruit punch as a party. Yeah. Orange and clove mainly. 

I have come to the view that none of these Deepika Masala Cones are actually masala. They present and burn like sawdust based perfumed cones. The aroma of this is OK, especially at the start - the top of the cone - but as it burns down so more of the base material, the sawdust, makes itself felt. And that is what we have been finding as we have burned the others. And after the cones have finished there is just a dirty air, an ash scent, left lingering rather than the wholesome scent that is left after a masala incense, cone or stick, has been burned. 

So, overall, not that impressed. This is a modest bottom end everyday incense - borderline with  a toilet air freshener. Not one to buy again.
