Vinasons VNS Musk Oudh

A sample of Musk Oudh by Vinasons of Pune, which came to me via reader Eugene (of Bhagwan Incense), who had met with Shreyas Sugandhi of Vinasons when researching incense for his shop. My understanding is that Vinasons are not a source for the Bhagwan incenses, as Vinasons prefer not to do own brand deals.

This is a masala style incense, though informed by fragrant oil blends. The sticks are 8 inches, with approx 7 inches of hard/dry charcoal paste which was hand-rolled onto a plain bamboo splint, and then thinly coated in a light brown almost grey coloured fine powder. The scent on the stick is dusty mineral - a cross between marble and concrete dust, with floral and woody notes reaching into agarwood. There is a cool menthol volatility which prevents close appreciation of the subtle notes in the oils.

When lit there is a modest flame with no noticeable black smoke.  The burn lasts for around 40 minutes and the room is informed by a proper job masala scent - a pleasant woody musk. This is an incense which is best appreciated as a background scent, as it does give a positive warm vibe to the surroundings. When wafted to the nose it feels a bit minimal - a little smoky and perhaps too simple or generic. I'd prefer more sweetness, more richness, more sensuality, and a greater range or at least more contrast. However, I like dark woody scents, so I am positively, albeit moderately, inclined to this Musk Oudh as a background scent that warms and cleanses the house.
