Ekom Woody

 

This is the second of four attractively packaged samples from Ekom,  a modern and young incense company based in the young city of Chandigarh with its bold modern architecture by Corbusier.  The company's website states that their products are organic, with no charcoal, or potassium nitrate or chemicals. The aim appears to be to produce a modern, natural, gentle and subtle incense. 

The sticks are 8 inches long, with approx. 6 inches of  machine extruded sandy brown paste applied to a machine-cut undyed bamboo splint. There is a mild menthol volatility on the stick propelling a gentle room freshener scent which is more mid notes than top or base, and hovers between woody and floral with some spice. On the burn the scent is warm, spicy, a bit dry, with woody elements, but nothing quite specific. It is a modest scent that provides some background warmth in the room without really making itself known. The scents are mainly picked up from  wafting the scent in my direction. 

On the whole there's not a lot here for me. The wood notes gravitate toward agarwood, though are fairly dry and flat - lacking, for me, the sweetness, the richness, the journey, that I normally enjoy with agarwood. The dryness might suit those who enjoy The Mother's; and the mildness and (to be fair) the purity might suit those who enjoy Japanese incense. This might also be enjoyed by those who like Tibetan incense.  Those - The Mother's, Japanese, and Tibetan incense - are not among my favourites, so this is not for me.
