Happy Hari (King of Incense) King of Amber

Second review  - scroll down for earlier.

I have just reviewed the modern version of Paul Eagle's "legendary" King of Amber, sold by Ashok at Padma Store, and the Temple of Incense Amber  sticks, which has the same profile, and is almost certainly from the same source. Both sticks are based on the King of Amber sold by Paul Eagle under his Happy Hari brand. During which I returned to Paul's King of Amber to note similarities and differences.

ToI Amber with the two Kings

Top: ToI Amber; middle: Padma King of Amber;
 bottom: Happy Hari King of Amber

The differences between Padma King / ToI Amber and Paul's original King of Amber are subtle. Paul's stick is slightly longer, slightly thinner and 1g lighter. The scent is similar - it has the same profile, but Paul's original is richer, brighter, deeper, with more weight on the musk and sharper and more delightful on the fruity/floral notes.

My original King of Amber sticks are quite old now, but they still impress. Just perhaps a tad less than my review in 2017.

First review

Oooh, I like this. Straight out of the pack there's a fresh and heady scent. Lemon, violets, quite floral, quite delicious. On burning those notes are again present, but supported by sandalwood and other wood tones, with - somewhere in the middle - an awareness of amber and dark fruits. Again, a machine made stick, producing quite a fat and consistent burn. Though again, one that does not quite deliver what is expected from the name, though amber does seem to be at the heart of what is happening here.

Not a great scent, but one that is interesting and pleasant enough for me to like it a little more than average; I shall look forward to exploring it further.
