The last stick to review from the 10 stick Blue Pearl "Classic Champa" sampler is Cedarwood, which is described as "Sweet, Herbaceous and Woody". Generally cedarwood is woody and masculine and cleansing, and can have spicy and/or citrus notes. It's not generally described as sweet, so I assume this Blue Pearl Cedarwood has been balanced with vanilla, as it the way with incense made in Pune, which is where I suspect Blue Pearl is made - though I'm not sure if it is HMS, VNS, or DBS, or some other Pune incense house.
Certainly the scent on the stick is quite frosty sweet, and it is the vanilla that dominates, softly supported by some twiggy woods, and a bag of camphor moth balls. It is more medicinal than aesthetic. I would expect to rub this on my chest rather than burn it for pleasure.

The scent on the burn is mild and soft, though with some dry twiggy notes, and a general air of vanilla or more close to benzoin, or, even closer, to sambrani/loban. There is a feel of Pondicherry incense about this in terms of the dry twiggy notes and the rough dirty resin feel. The sweet vanilla almost saves it, but on the whole this is not an incense that I've hugely enjoyed. But then, to be fair, single scent cedarwood hasn't been one of my favourite incense fragrances. On the whole this is OK, but it's not going on list to Santa.
The Classic Champa Sampler & More is available from Vitamin Grocer for £3.95; and Healing Waters for $2.99.

Note: It is not known who makes the incense for Blue Pearl; however, some of the incenses are similar to those made by HMS of Pune.
