The eighth stick from the 10 stick Blue Pearl "Classic Champa" sampler is Citronelle, which is described as "Blend of Citronelle and Lemongrass". I group citronella and lemongrass together as they come from the same plant family, though citronella has a stronger, more earthy scent compared to the sweeter, more lemony lemongrass.
The scent on the neatly hand-rolled stick is quite musky, with faint notes of benzoin - there's a good herby feel, edging toward sage, and a sense of fresh air. Coming forth slowly is a little spice and some resin, possibly frankincense. There's a general sense of Pune about it.
A rather delightful blend of frankincense and lemongrass in the burn. Some petrol and some twigs start to intrude and spoil the party. The stick needs to be placed a little further away than usual. At a distance the lighter lemongrass notes start to be more noticed, though the musky, resinous base still remains dominant. Small benzoin notes. A growing sense of murky twigginess starts to pervade the accord, so a sense of Pondicherry comes in; but not enough to ruin things. On the whole another rather approachable and likeable Blue Pearl incense.
The Classic Champa Sampler & More is available from Vitamin Grocer for £3.95; and Healing Waters for $2.99.

Note: It is not known who makes the incense for Blue Pearl; however, some of the incenses are similar to those made by HMS of Pune.
