Nandita Hemp Patchouli

I'd reviewed around a dozen or more Nandita incenses by the spring of this year (2024), and had got a generally favourable impression. Indeed, a handful of Nandita incenses have been in my Top Drawer at some point or other. So I thought I would investigate them a little more. I ordered batches from two different sources. Some from OnlineLondonStore as part of their Nandita Mix and Match deal, of which I've reviewed three so far, and while the sticks are nice, they have been of Everyday quality rather than Decent, let alone Top Drawer. I am wondering if the stock is old, which is why they were a cheap deal. The second source was a seller on eBay, who had 12 different scents plus a wooden burner for £11. This box  comes from that second batch.

Everything about this is fairly standard modern masala, following the path set by Satya. The box is the same size and shape as Satya, and the sticks are the same size and format - the average 6 inches of charcoal paste on an 8 inch bamboo stick, and coated in a fragrant brown melnoorva powder. The boxes are for the Western market, and are distributed by the Shah family based in the UK and Australia with their successful Wonder Incense company.

As is usual for these modern perfumed masala sticks, especially those distributed by Wonder Incense, the fragrance on the stick is delightful, while the scent on the burn is a little disappointing. The fragrance on the stick is sweet, perfumed, floral, faintly woody, faintly herbal, but not really like patchouli - one of my favourite single scents. The scent on the burn is a little sharp and prickly. Quite warm, mildly woody, reasonably attractive, but holds little interest. The scent dribbles loosely around the room but doesn't gain my attention, let alone keep it. This is very much an everyday incense, and not that interesting a one.

The impression I am getting is that Nandita have some established and respected scents, like Wood Spice and Black Gold, to which they are adding a multitude more; and it feels like there isn't much of an effort going into it. It seems that some fragrance oils are mixed together, and a name is given, and they'll see what happens. Ho hum.
