Calmveda King Champa

When I first burned this, I thought the packet said Nag Champa, and I found it quite smooth and delicious for a Nag Champa, though lacking the rough, earthy qualities that, for me, make a Nag Champa stand out. But it's not a Nag Champa, the words say King Champa. Nag Champa incense is usually based on the scent of magnolia champaca, usually with some sandalwood scent to give it that exquisite and now classic blend of wood and floral. While Champa incenses are usually based on frangipani, and generally are more weighted toward the floral, as is this.

There is a cool and rough scent volatility  on the stick which is a little off-putting, and doesn't bode well. Beyond the volatility there is a sense of sweet floral, touched with rose and jasmine - a little too perfumed and mainstream for my taste. However, the scent on the burn works for me. I've burned a few sticks now - the first burn was the one that really grabbed my attention; however, subsequent burns have, while not wrapping me up so deliciously as that first time, been quite delightful. This is a creamy, waxy floral scent - small nips of rose, a sparkling body of jasmine, a light sprinkling of orange water, with an exotic swirl of lilacs and vanilla. This is a really joyful, rich, playful, yet delicate array of florals. Quite beautiful. I'm not a floral fan, but I enjoyed this a lot. There is a subtle base of woods, plus the usual mild bonfire smoke of an incense using plant material as a combustible. That bonfire smoke works well here to keep the sweet, heady florals in place. Nice one.
