Stamford Cinnamon

One of a bunch of samples of Stamford incense sticks. Some of the samples I'd previously reviewed when Stamford was still part of Aargee, sometimes as part of a set, such as the Exotic Collection, sometimes individual packs, or - as with this Cinnamon - as a cone: Stamford Cinnamon cone, which didn't impress me much back in 2019. Since Aargee closed, the Stamford brand has continued as Stamford London, often using the same packet design and presumably the same source in India. These Cinnamon sticks are available in hex packs of 20 sticks for around £1.20.

The scent on the stick is a little soapy with mild floral, sage, and spice notes. There is an attractive savoury warmth with hints of curry spices. But there is a limit to the attraction; perhaps because that attraction is off-set with the soapy notes, which are pushing me away rather than drawing me in.

The scent on the burn is modest and ordinary. It retains that soapy quality I'd noticed on the stick, adding some warm, vague, burning notes - a sort of lit charcoal scent. I know that charcoal is not supposed to have a smell, but I was discussing it recently with Irene of the Rauchfahne blog, and I now recognise that, yes, there is a charcoal scent which I'd been denying, but has been there all the time. It is a slightly ashy and metallic coal dust scent - not unpleasant.

On the whole there's not a lot going on with this Cinnamon. It's not offensive at all, but neither is it a scent to notice as pleasant. It's just sort of there in the room.  A bit "meh".
