HEM Cinnamon Masala Incense

Another HEM masala incense. This and three other HEM masala fragrances are available from Amazon UK for £6 with free delivery.  This Cinnamon fragrance is available in various outlets: USA - IncenseWarehouse; Canada - SmudgeMataphysical; Ireland - LotusPagoda; etc. I prefer this to the Frankincense (even though frankincense is one of my favourite aromas) as it is clearly a more traditional masala, and does what I expect a masala to do. There is halmaddi involved, though not too much. The scent is rounded, comfortable, pleasant, slightly sweet, gently woody, softly spiced. There is nothing harsh or unexpected about this. It is a well made and conventional everyday masala with good fragrance tones. It's "flaw", if you will, is that it is so ordinary. There's little here to get excited about (other than HEM, the giants in the West for perfumed incense, are now exporting decent quality masala incense), but it does the job well at a good price. This easily matches (though not exceeds) Satya. It's not an incense that is going to entice the incense enthusiasts, but will likely gain a market among the general public, especially those who normally buy Satya. It may also gain a market among those who normally buy the HEM perfumed incense, though some may find masala incense a little too wild.

The stick is made in the same way as the Frankincense, and it is clear now that it is hand rolled by someone very experienced. HEM appear to have only recruited experienced rollers - or perhaps trained them up to a high standard in their own factory, same as in the Satya factory.

I like this. I'd happily buy it again.
