Pushkar incense (sometimes termed "Pushkar Temple") Sandal Super

Incense from the town of Pushkar in north west India, bought from Pilgrims Fair Trade as "Pushkar Temple Incense Natural Hand Rolled Masala Incense".  The most likely source is the Pushkar shop, Om Pushkar Natural Incens, though it is unknown if they make the incense. The incense is commonly described as "Pushkar Temple" in incense forums and blogs.

The sticks are crudely made from a blend of poor quality fragrance oils and agarbatti oil. There is a certain back street fascination to the crudity and pungency. Some blends are more pungent than others. The more pungent ones have the most charisma. With the less pungent ones the smell of the core material becomes too noticeable so there's a smouldering paper aroma rather than the sweet fragrance of the target scent.

The scent on this stick is less pungent, and sweeter than the Sandal Woods I've just burned. It's fairly clean, cool, and somewhat attractive. There's warmed butter, a touch of popcorn, hints of night jasmine. Yeah, I like this. Somewhat of a step up from the previous two Pushkar incenses I've reviewed - Sandal Woods and Agar Woods. The scent on the burn, however, is a little weak, so again we get the smouldering paper rather than the perfume oils. Not too much though, and the intended fragrance does waft in and out, and generally makes itself known. But ultimately it doesn't live up to the (minor) promise on the stick, and remains a low quality bog standard sandalwood incense.
