A single stick free sample of R. Expo's masala Jasmine. It is an 8 inch green dyed bamboo stick with 6 inches of hand-rolled masala style still soft paste coated in a brown wood powder. Attractive scent on the stick, slightly volatile, very woody, little awareness of floral notes. When lit there is a steady modest flame with no discernible black smoke. When the flame is blown out there is a steady, moderate grey blue smoke on a steady slow burn. The scent is sort of generic masala - sandalwood, halmaddi, soft, pleasant, slightly dry and prickly, evocative. It's a decent scent, though I'm not getting much jasmine. This is a common observation I have with traditional masala incense - that the aroma tends to gravitate around a central theme of sandalwood and masala, and doesn't often meet the single-scent descriptor.
This is an attractive, decent, everyday masala. A pleasant, lasting, woody scent - quite cleansing. It's a fairly limited scent, but it is warm, satisfying, and engaging. I'd be quite happy to buy this and use as a casual everyday incense.
