Pure Yemen (Herbal Dimensions) Dragons Blood Incense Sticks

Dragons Blood resin sticks from Pure Yemen, packaged and sold by the UK shop Herbal Dimensions. Dragons Blood is a resin traditionally produced from the dracaena species of tree. Modern Dragons Blood usually comes from dracaena draco, the Canary Islands dragon tree, or  from the fruit of daemonorops draco, the dragon's blood palm, which grows in Southeast Asia.  The original Dragons Blood, the dye from which was used to colour Stradivarius violins, comes from dracaena cinnabari, the dragon blood tree, which only grows on the Yemen island of Socotra. These incense sticks are made with the original and legendary dragons blood from dracaena cinnabari on Socotra.

The sticks are an attractive dusky red with a modest scent of mild caramel and milky tea. When lighting, there are sparkles, but these disappear when the flame is blown out. It's possible there is some moisture in the charcoal. The sticks soon settle to a healthy and reasonably consistent burn. There is an attractive scent. Not heavenly but certainly attractive. There is a powdery quality to the scent, and a curious melted plastic aroma such as when making plastic model airplanes with that Airfix glue that slightly dissolves the plastic. Beyond the melting plastic, there's an earthy scent, moderately resinous, fairly dry and ashy. It feels fresh, natural, cleansing, neutral. I'd say this is the most attractive and interesting and reassuring Dragons Blood incense I have burned. But I don't have a lot of experience with the scent (around 15 reviews, much of that being scented cones, quite likely to be synthetic or made from palm fruit). It's a scent that I've been curious about rather than fallen in love with. It's too neutral and chalky for me. But this does have some woody warmth, and a touch of balancing top note powdery floral with a touch of rose. Yeah, highly likeable.
