Temu Small Auspicious Cloud Ciqcai Pear Blossom

Second review - scroll down for earlier

I think I was rather harsh with my review last year. Almost a year later, and this now presents to me as rather a cute and pleasant incense - the scent is delicate, softly sweet, with touches of fresh fruit. Yes, there is a faint touch of cardboard; yes, this is not a complex or distinguished accord; yes, the format is a tad awkward to burn; yes, the clouds break way too easily; but as a modest everyday scent to gently freshen or sweeten a room, these are OK. And I do find the cloud format rather charming - it makes a change from cones. I wish I knew a little more about the history of Chinese incense, and how this cloud format evolved.

First review

The little wooden temple in the centre of the plate (supposedly a copy of  the Temple of Heaven in Beijing) is an "incense pod" which I bought in my second Temu bundle. Only £1.82, I thought it cute, and worth a gamble. Well, as an incense burner it sucks - I can only just squeeze a small auspicious cloud inside, and the ventilation is not good. I took it out before it scorched the wood. I'll keep it as a decoration. It unscrews, and something sweet smelling - some lavender perhaps - can be put inside.

This is my second Ciqcai branded incense from Temu - I wasn't excited with the first, Sweet-scented Osmanthus - it had a sweet citrus scent, though was very faint and simple. And the same is true here. But this is not as sweet. There is a sort of dried pear scent. It's fairly neutral. Not juicy enough for me. Meh.

£1.48 from Temu. Similar product, different brand: 69p from Shein. Prices on these websites fluctuate a lot.
