Elbenzauber Nag Champa

SamsaSpoon of Rauchfahne.de sent me some samples of Indian incense imported and sold by a German couple who have an Indian goods shop, Koh-Do, in Berlin. They use the brand name Elbenzauber (Elven magic) for these incenses. They don't sell online themselves, but their incense is available from a handful of German webstores such as Sensatonics and HouseOfHealing, and eBay.  They also have a Ritual range, which they make themselves in Berlin, which I'd be interested in trying.

Available from Amarandel.de for €4.90

Samsa tells me that this Elbenzauber Nag Champa is her current favourite Nag Champa, and I can certainly see why. The scent on the stick is gorgeous and inviting - very flowery, quite heady and dreamy, well supported by creamy sandalwood.  It is gentle and seductive on the burn, offering a wonderful nag champa scent without the prickle, spice, and burn of halmaddi. I suspect that something like vanillin or vanilla crystals are used as the fixative and amplifier instead. There is some gentle vanilla sweetness at the base. It's also quite herby and green, which gives it an interesting edge - bringing the scent of the magnolia champak flower to life by giving the musky sweetness a sharp green balance.

I like this. I like it a lot.
